Who wants a blog with only one post. Tomorrow is Labor Day. I have to work. While I do get paid time and a half, it is still a mandatory work day for me. Never mind the fact that I don’t consider myself a laborer, I am an hourly employee with no person reporting to me. That may be enough to call me a proletariat, but I don’t do manual labor. I don’t even breathe in noxious fumes or get treated poorly by my employer. Some say unions are obsolete because there are laws now in place to insure workers are treated fairly. Nevertheless, I can’t help but to think that if the unions went away, the laws would gradually change back in that other direction. Even with those laws in place, the 40 hour work week has become a thing of the past. We make more today, but employers are still expecting 40-50 hours a week for hourly employees and 50-60 hours a week for salaried employees.
